The mandate of the Population Committee is to review population issues in the province, taking into account the views and concerns of each of the three partners, labour, business and government. In addition to immigration, which is being addressed through the provincial government's Immigration Strategy, the Population Committee will also address issues related to retention (including youth), return migration and in-migration.

The Council established a Population Committee with three representatives from each partner. This Committee will review research material, consult with key stakeholders and report back to the Strategic Partnership Council with recommendations about how to advance this project through 2011. The Strategic Partnership Secretariat will provide research and other support to the Population Committee.

Taking into account the recommendations of the Population Committee, the SPC will then determine the Goal and Objectives for the population project for the rest of 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Business representatives on the Population Committee are Cathy Bennett, Bennett's Restaurants; Derek Butler, Association of Seafood Producers; and Bradley George of CFIB.
