Roger Flood, new Chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador Business Coalition
April 26, 2010

The Board of Directors of the Business Coalition is pleased to announce Roger Flood as the new Chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador Business Coalition. He is replacing Denis Mahoney who steered the organization for five years, taking it from the original business caucus of two founding organizations - the St. John's Board of Trade and the Newfoundland and Labrador Employers Council - to the thirteen member organization it is today.

Roger brings a well rounded career in business and government to lead the Coalition's work on projects and issues of interest to the business community at large, leveraging the work of each of its member organizations. He will also lead business input in the Strategic Partnership, working with labour and government to drive prosperity and growth through mutual work on issues related to employment relations, labour market, transportation, innovation and population.

After six years with the provincial Government as an Engineer with the Department of Transportation, he went on to work for seventeen years as General Manager and Manager of Special Projects with Lundrigans Ltd in their manufacturing, construction and offshore divisions. His independent business career then grew with his work as a partner in Nova Recycling for five years and as President of Day & Ross Nfld Ltd for six years. Then before retiring, he spent four years as President and CEO of Marine Atlantic.

Throughout his career, Roger was fully engaged in the business community holding various leadership positions in Atlantic, Canadian and American Concrete Institutes; as a member of the board of governors of the Cabot Institute of Applied Arts and Technology, Avalon/Eastern/Cabot College; as a member of the selection committee for a new president and a Member of the Board of Governors of Cabot College. He was a Director of Nfld. Computer Services; President of the St. John's Board of Trade; a Member of the Genesis Committee; and a director with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission.

His varied experiences provides him with a solid foundation for the Coalition and the Strategic Partnership - with a long standing career interacting with labour in various union negotiations with building trades unions, first agreements, and working with international unions; and his work with business and government.
